I enjoy using borders in my journals, sketch books and water color design. These border designs may appear to be very simple, but in this class you’ll learn they are far more complex. Learn a basic water color technique and complete an entire sketchbook to use in your many creative works. We’ll devote the entire class to these borders and each student will have individual instruction. No painting experience required! Where I create...
- My studio sits to the back of my home. It was a 200 sq. ft. patio that was enclosed by the previous owner. It has two sliding glass doors with verticles that I can close at anytime when I get company. This does no good because everyone always wants to see what I'm creating. It's a great space and sold me on the home as soon as I saw it. There are two large dormers windows and and six sliding windows in the room giving me wonderful light when I work. It's connected to my living room and very much a part of my home. It's wonderful creating where you live. Everyone should have a place to create. Leave it up, leave it messy, go to it when you need to create and move within your artistic soul.

AU 2012 - Poker Face, 8/5/12
Hey, gimme your poker face! I love altering cards. The more unusual the deck, the more creative I become. Working with a Masters deck of cards, all female, I designed these pieces honoring my female friends and family. I love to salvage at thrift stores and garage sales for unusual game cards to add to my collection. I’ll share these with you so you can design 3 collective pieces. Let your imagination go wild as we collage, glue & assemble with paper, fabric & fun “stuff”. Learn color placement, design and collage as you creatively work with 3 pieces at one time. You’ll love these mixed media shapes to add to your decks, as decorative gift tags or as a compliment to your journal pages. I enjoy giving them as Christmas ornaments, and they are always a conversation piece.
AU 2012 - Retro Pop!, 8/6/11
Retrograde is a culturally aged style, from the postmodern past, that has become functionally the norm once again. Pop Art, was developed in the 40’s & 50’s as a need for bold, eye-catching graphics that were easy to reproduce. I’ve combined these two styles and call it Retro Pop. In this class you will learn to change the look of everyday objects that will result in a creation that’s retro cool! We’ll look at a bowl of fruit and learn to draw it, slightly off –kilter, in a very modern style. I’ve used this technique on canvas work, as backgrounds in my journals to add a vintage flair and believe it or not…on my dining room cabinets! Learn drawing, acrylic painting and basic design of your piece.

Be Still My Heart - Student Art Work
Cindy Olson and Laura Fraedrich http://www.thepeculiarpalette.com from the Phoenix, AZ area, created the below works of art at Frenzy Stamper http://frenzystamper.com on August 13th. In my class, Be Still My Heart, we worked with found objects, canvas, gesso, iridescent & metallic paints and Pearl Ex powders, what fun! Cindy's piece is the silver and gold cross and Laura's the multi-colored "birdsnest" circle. The students were instructed to choose any shape and as you can see, they both creativly knew what they were doing. Fabulous work, don't you think? If you see Cindy or Laura congratulate them! They've both created wonderful works in mixed media exploration.
